4 Reasons Why We Love the New Maruti Wagon R

You might have thought of Wagon R as just a popular hatchback from Maruti’s wide range of cars. However, it is way beyond that. Since its first launch in 1999, Maruti WagonR has been one of the most successful vehicles for the company in the history of the Indian automotive industry.

No one could predict this car would become one of the most loved cars in India. Even though it is not highly attractive as compared to a sedan or a sports car, it has more features and design elements than what people expect from a hatchback in its price range. You can count on this car for three primary reasons – it is high in utility, very versatile and budget-friendly.

The new 2019 model of Wagon R, which is its third generation has been launched. As the brand says, it is better in every aspect. If you are planning a new car, it’s time to check out why Indians are loving the latest Maruti Wagon R.

It’s Bigger and Better in Design

One reason why the new Wagon R looks promising to Indian car buyers is its dimensional improvements. It now has a length of 3655 mm, a width of 1620 mm and a wheelbase of 2435mm that gives enough legroom in the inside. It is taller now and has a floating roof design that gives it an attractive look. Also, its rear design is tweaked, especially the halogen headlamps and sculpted tail lamps. It does not have roof rails as well, unlike its previous models. Although there are more curves on the new Wagon R’s body than before, it still resembles the older models in many ways.

It Has Improved Interiors

When you step a little closer to the new WagonR, you will notice its new interior design elements. Its interiors are quite roomy, with most of its parts finished in black. With the tilt-adjustable steering wheel, you will find it easier to get into a good driving position. It has a new instrument console that lights with an orange backlight, an analogue speedometer and a provision to show its fuel efficiency on the screen. Particularly its infotainment system, which the brand calls as the SmartPlay Studio, is new and appealing.

It’s High in Security Quotient

As a standard safety feature, the all-new Wagon R has a driver airbag even in its entry-level variant. To get the passenger airbags, you will need to pay extra. There is a front seatbelt reminder in it as well to keep the riders safe when on the roads. It also has a speed alert system installed in it to ensure that the driver does not drive it a speed higher than the optimum. Furthermore, it is based on the Heartect A platform, which is stronger than its last-generation model and complies with Indian crash test standards.

It’s More Powerful and Fuel Efficient

The new Wagon R model has a more powerful 1.2-litre petrol engine same as in Swift, which has a peak level power of 82 bhp. Alongside this model is also available in 1.0-litre engine in its L and V variants. Even there is a CNG variant now available in the L trim with a 1.0-litre engine.

Indeed, it is fuel-efficient, giving a mileage of 22.5 kmpl with the petrol-fueled 1.0-litre engine and 1.5kmpl with a 1.2-litre engine.

All these features and improvements make the new Wagon R a convincing upgrade for the Indians. Even its top variant having 1.2-litre engine and AMT is priced at INR 5.69 Lakhs, making it a more sensible buy than other cars in this range.
