Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka in what could be called ‘the first respectable match’ of the Champions Trophy in terms of today’s scores. The team successfully chased the Lankan total with four wickets in hand and one over to spare.
The Sri Lankans posted a healthy total of 254 and looked like winning all through the game. But their hopes were dashed by Razzak, who made the most of the lifeline given to him by Dilshan. Dilshan dropped Razzak when he was on 4 and scripted his own team’s downfall by that folly.
The Pakistan team had a lot at stake. With the exit of its two pacemen, Shoib Akhtar and Mohd. Asif, on charges of dope consumption, the team had its back against the wall. But that is when the Pakistanis do well! They came out with a young, cohesive outfit and played to their potential.
At the end of the day, they held their nerves and emerged victorious owing to some healthy partnerships and hard-hitting.
One could have to say that the Sri Lankans lost the game rather than the Pakistanis winning it. All said and done; it was a good match, well contested!…
