Sona Mohapatra is one of the few singers on the music scene today that has made it on her own talent. In continuation of a musical journey that started from her first soft-rock smash hit song BOLO NA, followed by Aja Ve, Abhi Nahin Ana, and the Sufi classic Tere Ishq Nachya.
Sona’s brand new single ‘Diljale‘ is set to release on Sept 1, 2009. All these video singles featured in the top 10 music charts on release in 2006 and 2007.
The video of Diljale has been shot in the streets of NEW YORK and represents the night soundscape of her forthcoming album RAAT/DIN. The songs of night and day are loosely woven around the timings of Hindustani ragas.
The beautiful visuals of the video embody the transition of night into day and are also symbolic of the beauty and loneliness of the cities we live in. The song is about the universal theme of heartbreak and memories.
Sona’s self-titled debut album was released on Sony Music and won all the non-film awards in 2007. She is a rare artist who has been profiled alongside Kailash Kher in a World Music series called ‘The Music Nomad‘ by NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC as independent artistes who and whose music embodies the essence of India in the new age. This series is slated to go on air across several networks in 167 countries this November 09.
Sona and her amazing band started this year by performing at the prestigious Lincoln Center in New York City (NYC) and followed it up with a stadium gig of 40,000 in Chandigarh and plan to follow the world music trial across the globe in the coming days. Back home Sona also has several film songs in the pipeline, starting from UTV’s ‘Age Se Right’ in the coming month. Her song ‘Daav Laga‘ features Sona and her band in the music video.
Sona will be performing her brand new single and her other songs with her band on the occasion of the Nokia Digital Music Store launch and International Music Forum, ‘NOKIA Music connects‘ on the 26th of August 09 at the Taj Lands End Bandra. Nokia is partnering with the digital release of this song and video across the globe. A first for an independent artist in India.
