Will Weight Loss Surgery Cure Diabetes?

Type I Diabetes, where the body fails to produce insulin, as the person needs to inject insulin.

Type II Diabetes is the condition where the cells fail to use insulin properly… sometimes it combines with insulin deficiency.

Gestational Diabetes is seen in pregnant women with type II diabetes where they have high blood glucose levels…

There are many trials conducted on Obese patients. One testing was Gastric bypass Surgery versus Lap Band Surgery and another pitting gastric bypass surgery against sleeve Gastrectomy, among them gastric bypass (Bariatric Surgery) came out to resolve the symptoms of type II diabetes.

To understand the mechanics of gastric bypass, we need to know the normal digestive process which is shown in the video below.

Human Digestive System:

Bariatric Surgery is a variety of procedures performed on obese patients. Weight loss can be achieved by implanting a medical device(gastric banding) to reduce the size of the stomach or by the removal of a portion of the stomach (sleeve Gastrectomy or Biliopancreatic diversion with a duodenal switch) or redirecting the small intestines to the small stomach pouch.

Doctors believe that food makes the gut produce hormones to spur insulin, so when we surgically trim away part of it, then that may affect the hormones.
Bariatric surgery can only be done when there is a BMI of at least 35 -40.

Fifty science and medical diabetes experts, representing 22 international organizations, have issued a consensus statement that calls for Bariatric Surgery to be used as a treatment for type 2 diabetes.

The studies also proved none of the patients died due to this surgery but only a few experienced some complications…

Did you experience any of the Surgeries for Weight Loss or obesity? If so, why not share your personal opinion?
