4 Points for Securing Your Digital Business

Secure Your Digital Business

Running a digital business can be an easier (and sometimes less expensive) way to make money. With digital business, you don’t need to buy or rent actual office space and you won’t have utility bills to pay for.

Although you will not have to maintain a brick-and-mortar business, there are certain things you will need to do in order to secure your digital business. You want to be sure that your information, as well as the information of your customers and clients, is secure and unable to be attacked or breached.

This will keep your customers and clients happy, and it will also make your business more successful because customers and clients will not be afraid of giving you information.

If you have a digital business, use the following tips to secure your digital business.

On this page

  • Do an audit on your digital security.
  • Encrypt your data.
  • Hire a third-party security company.
  • Teach your staff to practice strong security measures.

Do an audit on your digital security.

In order to protect your digital business, you’ll need to do an audit to ensure that you have the right metrics and security in place. Go through your entire IT infrastructure to ensure that it’s well maintained and secure through a security audit. If you find that any area of your infrastructure, from computers to mobile devices, is not secure, do everything you can to secure it as quickly as possible.

Encrypt your data.

Hackers have the skills to find their way around security measures, so you want to take additional precautions. Aside from just having a secure network, you want to also encrypt the data that you store. This way, if your security becomes breached, the hackers will not be able to read the data they hacked.

Hire a third-party security company.

You may have an IT team that can keep your digital business secure, or you may not have an IT department on your payroll. Whether you have one or not, it may be a better idea for you to hire a third-party security company, such as Security Metrics to conduct a PCI compliance audit, to help ensure your business is secure.

A third-party security company’s sole purpose is to protect your business, so they’ll be able to not only assess the infrastructure and security metrics you have in place, but they will also be able to provide you with the right type of protection for your business. This will ensure you get the right protection, and it will take the responsibility off your shoulders.

Teach your staff to practice strong security measures.

You can have all the security metrics in place to protect your business, but that doesn’t necessarily help if your staff doesn’t practice strong security metrics. Make sure that your staff is aware of the role they play in the security of your digital business.

For example, teach them to use strong usernames and passwords for company portals and databases they access. You should also teach them the importance of company materials, such as smartphones or laptop computers.

Remind them to use security measures when using these computers, such as only accessing secure websites when on public WiFi or ensuring that laptops and smartphones are passwords protected. This way, if the item is ever lost, an individual that finds it will not be able to access any information that may be on it and put the company at risk.
