Please Be Seated: Important Furnishing Insights for Restaurant Owners

Updated: May 14, 2023 by Nishitha • 3 min read

Furnishing Restaurant

When starting their own business, restaurant owners have to consider the design of the building, location, décor, entertainment, food of course, and many more things. With so much going on, seemingly small details like seating can sometimes slip by the wayside.

However, if you really think about it, seating is actually one of the most important aspects of a restaurant. Customers will spend the majority of their time in a seat. If their seat is uncomfortable, it could ruin their experience and distract them from food and conversation. Since choosing the right furniture is so important, here are a few tips to help you make the best choice for your restaurant.

Please, take a seat.

Things to Consider

Every dining establishment is different, so it’s important to think about the details of your specific restaurant when deciding on furniture for it. Here are a few things to consider:

The Aesthetic of Your Restaurant

What style are you going for in your restaurant? If it’s a casual family diner, comfortable booths that won’t show stains might be best. If you’re operating a fine dining establishment, your emphasis should be on style and class. Perhaps, your restaurant is supposed to make people think of a certain place or time period. If so, choose furniture that people might find there.

The Type of Restaurant

The type of restaurant you run also plays an important role. If it’s a bar, you will need bar stools and probably some tables and chairs. If a lot of your customers eat outside, you’ll need furniture that can withstand being outdoors.

The Size of Your Restaurant

If you’re in a small space, you should, of course, go for more compact furnishings. Often, smaller booths work well for this, because they combine two seats in one. Bar stools and high-standing tables also take up less room than standard tables.

Your Budget

The amount of money you’re willing and able to spend on furniture is naturally another significant consideration. Smaller furniture will often be cheaper. If you have a smaller budget for furniture, you may have to opt for a more casual look. There are lots of options when it comes to buying restaurant furniture. Check out physical stores, as well as online retailers such as restaurant-furniture.com.

Types of Seating

There are a number of different types of restaurant seating options to consider. What’s best for your establishment depends on its individual needs.

Chairs

Some might say that chairs are the go-to when it comes to restaurant seating. They can easily be moved around and can vary in size and comfort levels. Usually, they aren’t as plush as booths, but can still be quite comfortable.

Booths

Booths are great for a casual family dining atmosphere and also happen to be great space savers. They’re usually plush and comfortable, which adds to the casual atmosphere.

Stools

Stools are, of course, ideal for bars. They can also work for high-standing tables. They often evoke a less family-oriented feel due to their association with bars and the fact that they’re too tall for kids.

Couches

Couches are a rather unique choice when it comes to restaurant furniture. They’re the comfiest of seating choices and usually suggest a more casual feel. They can be somewhat higher-class, though, if designed right or give off a casual, quirky vibe. One downside is that they’re hard to move, but they’ll definitely give your restaurant something unique.

Your customers will spend the vast majority of their visits in their seats, and they’ll also be the main feature of your decor. For these reasons, it’s important to make the right seating choices for your business. Whether you choose chairs, booths, stools, or couches, just make sure it’s the right pick for your customers.
