We do so much unconscious reading every day. Did you ever think of this? Most of the time, it is involuntary. It comes to us as easily as the blinking of the eye.
But there is someone who canโt make sense of a few alphabets put together; there is someone who canโt appreciate the newspaper’s messages every morning. Identifying and helping such kids complete their primary education is the aim of Room to Read. It started in the year 2000 by simply donating books to underprivileged kids in Nepal. And today, it grew into a global organization dedicated to promoting and enabling education through programs focused on literacy and gender equality in education.
The steps they take to achieve this long term goal are contributing activities like establishing school libraries, building schools, publishing local-language children’s books, training teachers on literacy education, and supporting girls to complete secondary school. In addition to this, they also make sure that life after school is also taken care of. They impart students with the knowledge and skill to help them stand on their own two feet after the school has withdrawn its support.
Room to Read has extended help to children in Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Laos, Nepal, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Vietnam, and Zambia. After achieving their goal here, they have marched forward to wave their magic wand over 10 million children by 2015. With the same aim, they have made an interesting video creating a new way to spread literacy. Please take a look at it and show it to everyone around you. Please spread the message so more children can live their dream of being educated.
