Digital App Marketing for your Business

Increasing Business Footfall with a Mobile App

Business August 3, 2017 by Izaak Crook

Most old school marketers focus their efforts on traditional methods. But time and time again, one of the most powerful marketing channels available to marketers is overlooked.

In this article, you’ll learn some interesting ways to use apps to drive customers to your business, whether that’s through the door or simply a little more engagement.

On this page

  • So how can you do it?
  • Use mobile to leverage local marketing
  • You don’t always need to build an app to promote your business!
  • Always keep an eye on trending apps
  • Create a Local Business Directory

So how can you do it?

Business owners seriously underestimate the impact a simple app can have on their business and more often than not, the most impactful apps are so simple.

If your website is in the fitness sector, then perhaps an app for tracking workout programs (exercises, weight loss, weight gain, etc.) would be useful and a good selling point.

You should always consider creating an app that solves a particular problem in your niche. Because marketing something that is unique is often an easier task.

Use mobile to leverage local marketing

Utilize GEO targeted push notifications. They can be an extremely useful feature for updating clients, whether you run a brick and mortar store wanting to promote a sale or a recruitment app letting users know of a job opening in their vicinity.

Geo-targeting can be very powerful when leveraged. For example, let’s say that you have a bar and you’re offering a BOGOF deal. To promote this offer, consider enabling GEO targeted push notifications to let everyone know about the deal. There are so many ways to utilize the mobile platform for marketing yourself.

You don’t always need to build an app to promote your business!

You can use already established apps to promote your business. There are four social media apps you want to consider to market your business; Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Twitter.

To promote your business, consider asking clients to check-in for a discount on your products. When a client checks-in to your business on Facebook it creates a digital touchpoint on a user’s profile page.

If you own a restaurant or a coffee shop, consider offering a free dish or beverage if the person checks-in on Facebook. The same promotion can work with Instagram; take a picture and upload it.

People love free stuff, and generally speaking? It isn’t an exhaustive marketing operation.

Always keep an eye on trending apps

When Pokemon Go first launched, it was a massive phenomenon, and thousands of people hit the parks and streets in hopes of catching rare Pokemon. Since then, the trend has died down a bit, but there are still a few things we can learn.

Pokemon Go has a feature which allows people to request a PokeStop at their business location.

Since most players have to stop by a PokeStop to earn more rewards, this can be extremely lucrative. Create a simple sign outside your door that lets people know there’s a PokeStop at your business.

Pokemon Go is just one of many examples. It’s always a good idea to stay up-to-date on the latest trends and get in on them before they expire. Currently, the Pokemon trend is dying but the next trend might begin soon. Keep an eye out.

Create a Local Business Directory

If you’re not sure what type of app to create for your business, one idea would be to create a directory app that lists all the nearby establishments.

For starters, the app can include your business name, website link, and logos; that’s plenty of marketing right there. You can also send out GEO targeted push notifications whenever one of the businesses you listed offers a special deal. Additionally, if the app is a success, there’s the option to charge businesses to be listed.

So you can benefit in a number of different ways, without much effort required on your part. The cool thing about this method is directory apps are not especially difficult to create. When you create one, all you have to do is use the sample template to create more in different categories.

To wrap this article up…

Learning how to promote your business with apps is an incredibly useful skill. Not many business owners are aware of the marketing opportunities that come from apps, and they assume it’s too difficult to get started. With a little effort on your part, you can unlock access to an unlimited stream of potential customers. Remember the tips mentioned in this article, and try to brainstorm your own because this is just the tip of the iceberg.
