Internet or World Wide Web that we use today is entirely different from what the founder of World Wide Web developed by Berners-Lee in October 1990. We have come along a long way since then.
The technology has developed in leaps & bounds, resulting in the World Wide Web as we see it today. And now, we are standing on the verge of another paradigm shift, Web 3.0. Witnessing such a huge popularity of Web 3.0, even before it’s here, it’s obvious t have the curiosity to know more about it.
In this blog, I have discussed what is web3, Web 2 vs Web 3 & What changes it will bring to the way we interact with the Web.
So let’s get going.

What is Web3?
In simple terms, Web 3.0 is an advanced version of Web 2.0. But it’s not that simple. Web 3.0 is a blockchain-based, decentralized Internet that understands the queries through context & concept. It will deliver a more tailored user experience by better understanding user input in any form.
Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web, termed Web 3.0 “Semantic web”. “Semantics” is a study of the relationship between multiple words. Instead of the syntax, it focuses on the meaning of a sentence.
E.g., a child could be called boy, girl, daughter, son, or kid, depending on the context. Web 3.0 delivers more tailored results for such queries by better understanding a particular user.
Moreover, on Web 3.0, the interaction between Humans & Machines will be far more advanced than the current version.
What is the Relation between Web 3.0, Blockchain & Cryptocurrency?
As I mentioned earlier, Web 3.0 will be decentralized, unlike the current version. It’s the same concept that drives blockchain & cryptocurrency. So we will surely see some positive relationships & seamless integration.
I believe all three will be interoperable & will be able to overcome certain limitations posed by Web 2.0.
What are the features of Web 3.0?
Here is the list of the Pillars of Web 3.0:
Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence has displayed exponential growth in recent times. And I believe it will be the core force that will drive the development of Web 3.0.
Although even the current Web version has some AI-based abilities, human nature still dominates it.
The best example is various review platforms, like Glassdoor & Google Playstore reviews. Here any brand or company can upvote themselves or downvote their peer by rigged rating. And this happens all the time.
Artificial intelligence can be of great help here as it can identify such fake reviews & eliminate them. This is the same technology used by Google.
Web3.0 will be powered by such AI-tech that will ensure unbiased & genuine content for the users.
Decentralized
This is another key feature of Web 3.0. At present, we use HTTP to locate any information. This information is stored at a particular location, known as a server room. E.g., Facebook stores its data on its Serve, and whenever a user searches for something, it resents the data. But all the Data is owned by Facebook. So it’s a centralized system.
On the contrary, Web 3.0 will operate in a decentralized manner. Instead of storing the data at one particular location, the Data will be stored in small bits and pieces at different locations.
This will reduce the monopoly of particular organizations over the data.
Users will be able to monetize the data & content created by them as they will own the data themselves. With all-powerful portable devices like mobiles & laptops, the users will control the Data they create.
Omnipresence (Ubiquity)
The omnipresence of the Internet & gadgets is a vital organ of Web 3.0. Digital technology has already moved past just laptops, desktops & mobiles. With the introduction of wearables & personal assistants like Alexa, digital tech is spreading its presence.
This will become more apparent on Web 3.0.
We will witness many gadgets that will seamlessly integrate with our daily life, resulting in offering a better user experience.
Metaverse
This is probably the most talked about topic in the Digital domain. Many tech giants like Facebook( or Meta), Google, Microsoft, & Roblox are already investing a lot in it. Based on Blockchain technology, Metaverse will revolutionize how we interact with the Internet today. So when it comes to Web 3.0, there Metaverse will be a key component.
This is the reason why some experts like to call Web 3.0 a Spatial web, as it will eliminate or at least blur the boundaries between the Virtual & Physical worlds. You can check out my detailed guide to Metaverse here.
Semantic Web
As mentioned earlier, semantics deal with the interrelation of various words. As with web 3.0, it will understand a particular search query concerning Context & Concept. This will deliver a more focused & tailored user experience.
In other words, with the inception of semantics, the Internet will be able to identify emotions based on the input provided by the user.
What are the advantages of Web 3.0?
Web 3.0 will offer a greater utility, far more than what is being offered by web 2.0. It will go beyond Social media, Live Streaming & shopping.
Virtual world & Metaverse will help businesses deliver a more immersive experience to their users, resulting in better services.
With decentralization, users will enjoy far greater control over their data than what they have today.
With limited data collection from Big organizations like Google & Facebook, users will enjoy better privacy.
Web 3.0 will eliminate or, at the least, reduce the monopoly of Google & Facebook.
What are the disadvantages of Web 3.0?
The biggest concern that experts have about Web 3.0 is the Regulatory issue. As there will be no centralization of data, it will be difficult to monitor & regulate the ominous data.
Decentralization will also impact the Governing bodies’ ability to curb hate speeches, cybercrime & malpractices.
The bottom line
We have come too far from Web 1.0 that offered limited content & utilities, and with the introduction of Web 3.0, we will witness a paradigm shift in the Digital world.
We will enjoy a lot more immersive Web experiences as we have never imagined before. But like with every technological achievement, there come challenges with Web 3.0.
It’s up to us to overcome these challenges & leverage the unlimited potential of Web 3.0.
Hope this guide to Web 3.0 will help you understand where the Digital world is going right now. To read more about blockchain & Metaverse, stay tuned to our website.
