Is it legal to use a VPN with Netflix?

If you’re already acquainted with the world of online streaming, then you’d definitely be familiar with the greatness of Netflix. The popular US-based streaming service is among the pioneers of this industry. It is the first streaming service that came up with the idea of allowing users to watch their favorite movies and TV shows on the internet. It offered the convenience of watching your favorite movies online at a time when people had to rent them out.

The idea to provide greater convenience and a payment model similar to a gym membership was a hit. Sooner rather than later, the Netflix brand spread everywhere. It effectively replaced cable TV in the US and many other countries. Today, Netflix is a billion-dollar company that actually has its own studio as well!

Geo-Restrictions and Netflix

Despite being a popular streaming service, Netflix was only available in the US until a few years ago. The streaming service only concentrated on its audience in the US and was unavailable elsewhere. However, its reputation had spread far and wide, and people from other countries also started streaming on Netflix. To access the website, they began using VPNs and proxies. Though this method worked for a while, Netflix soon started blocking VPN and proxy users from accessing its services. That was the time when Netflix was made available worldwide, and all kinds of geo-restrictions were removed.

Soon another problem surfaced. While the streaming service is available in most countries around the world, it offers different libraries to people in different countries. Most content libraries are toned down versions of the most extensive content library that is only available to the users in the US. To access the US version of Netflix, people again started looking out to VPN services, but most VPN services and proxies fail to provide access to the American version of Netflix.

A small number of VPN services have succeeded in this task. You can easily stream Netflix US from anywhere with PureVPN.

But is it legal to use a VPN with Netflix?

A lot of people are confused if it is legal to stream Netflix with a VPN. Some worry if they are infringing any copyright laws. Others don’t want their Netflix account to get blocked by the streaming service.

There was a time when Netflix actually blocked accounts of people who were caught using proxies. But that was a long ago. Soon, Netflix understood why people were eager to access the channel using a VPN. And it offered more significant relaxations. Although it publicly discourages the use of VPNs and proxies, it has stopped blocking any accounts using VPNs.

So to answer the above question: yes, it is legal to use a VPN with Netflix. Netflix won’t take action against you for using a VPN service.

A problem may arise if VPNs are banned in your country. Some countries have put restrictions on using VPN services. So it is better to look up if it is legal to use a VPN in your country. If it is, then you won’t face any issues when using a VPN with Netflix.

The Best VPN for Netflix

There are hundreds of VPN services on the web. And as mentioned above, most of these streaming services fail to provide access to the American version of Netflix. Whenever you would try to access Netflix after connecting to the VPN, it would show the error: “You seem to be using an adblocker or proxy.”

Although it sounds frustrating, you’d be happy to learn that this isn’t the case with all VPN services. Some VPN services do allow you to access Netflix without facing any issues or error messages. One of these VPN services is PureVPN. This Hong-Kong based VPN service is the one that we recommend for streaming Netflix US from anywhere.

But why is PureVPN so amazing for streaming Netflix? We did a PureVPN review of our own and understood the reasons why the VPN service is perfect for Netflix streaming. PureVPN has got over 2,000 servers in 140 countries. Among these are servers that have been dedicated to accessing American Netflix. PureVPN is also a highly rated VPN service. You only need to search for PureVPN Rating on Trust Pilot, and you’ll come across thousands of reviews that recommend PureVPN.

  1. I use Nord for Netflix for 8 month. There is nothing better than using a VPN for unlocking different content, and I was lucky enough to find a discount coupon and get it with 75% discount. There is no speed drop btw, and lags or freezes. I mostly watch Australian Netflix, as it has the best shows in my opinion.
